The curtains for the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup draw has unfolded at the lowest point on earth in Dead Sea, Jordan, where Jordan was drawn as head of group A along with China, Thailand, and the Philippines. while title holders and defending champions Japan heads group B, accompanied by Australia, Korea Republic, and Vietnam.

Under the patronage of Jordan FA President HRH Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, the draw was held on Saturday, December 9, at the King Hussein Conventions Center in Dead-Sea, in the attendance of officials from the Asian Football Confederation, and representatives from the participating countries.

The result of the draw came in while Jordan was playing its friendly international against Thailand in Bangkok, where Jordan holds a training camp in preparation for the Asian Finals.

Head coach Michael Dickey reflected on the result of the draw, stating that Jordan will now be aiming to collect 6 points from the group stage in order to qualify to the World Cup for the first time in Jordanian football history.

Dickey said: "The draw looks good on paper. but it won’t be easy in reality. China, Thailand, and the Philippines will all be aiming to get the results which will get them to qualify for the world cup, so it won’t be simple or safe for any of the 4 teams in the group.”

He added: “We want to get 6 points in order to avoid the complications that will be associated with the third place play-off for the final World Cup qualification ticket."

Jordan will kickoff the Women’s Asian Cup by playing the Philippines in the opening game on Friday, April 6, at the Amman International Stadium, then takes on Thailand on Monday, April 9, at the King Abdullah II Stadium, while plays the closing match on Thursday, April 12, at the Amman International Stadium.

The first two teams from each group qualify to the semi finals, securing an automatic qualification to the World cup. While the fifth and last qualification ticket to the World Cup will be decided in a play-off match between third place holders.
