Jordan WNT draws with Madrid CFF in a friendly
Jordan Women's National Team and Madrid CFF settled for a 2-2 draw in the friendly match that was held between the two teams, in Madrid, on Thursday, February 15.
Maysa Jbarah opened the scoring for Jordan in the 7th minute, while Shahnaz Jibreen doubled the lead in the 29th minute. However, the Spaniards managed to pull one back on the hour mark, and canceled Jordan's lead with a goal in the 84th minute after a controversial penalty call from the referee.
Jordan faced a tough and skillful opponent, but still managed to contain them by sticking to their roles in covering all the players from the Madrid team. A goal from Maysa Jbarah took the Spaniards by surprise when Shahnaz Jibreen assisted Jbarah in front of the goal only for her to tap it in early in the game.
The goal provoked the hosts as they put all their energies in attacking in order to equalize. The Jordanian ladies were able to contain the Madridistas, relying on fast counter-attacks, then high-pressing the opponents in the attacking third. It paid off when Jibreen stole the ball from their defenses and struck the second goal with 15 minutes from halftime.
In the second half, the Spaniards took control over midfield, following a number of changes in the middle from head coach Michael Dickey. The game also witnessed Alia Abu El Hawa's first appearance with the National Team.
Madrid CFF managed to score their first goal in the 63rd minute in a fashion similar to Jordan's opener. And then brought it all back to level in the 84th minute after being awarded with a controversial penalty kick, following a foul being committed on Jbarah inside the Jordanian penalty area. Final score: Madrid CFF 2, Jordan 2.
The team takes on Atletico de Madrid Femenino on Wednesday, February 21, while wrap up their encounters by facing Rayo Vallecano Femenino on Thursday, February 22.
The training camp comes as part of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Jordan Football Association and La Liga, which includes a part dedicated to the development of the Women’s Football scene in Jordan.
