Jordan edged out by the Philippines in Women's Asian Cup opener
Jordan Women's National Team campaign at the AFC Women's Asian Cup started with a bitter 2-1 defeat to the Philippines.
The encounter which took place on Friday, April 6, at the Amman International Stadium, saw Jordan take the lead through Maysa Jbarah's opener in the 15th minute, bringing the first half to an end.
In the second half, the visitors grabbed an equalizer with an own goal from the Jordanian defense by mistake. The goal was a turning point in the game, as the Philippines gained confidence and managed to score the winner in the 76th minute through Sarina Bolden, after taking advantage of a defensive mistake at the back.
The National Team pushed forward to grab the equalizer, most notably for Jbarah's header that was denied by the post in the 88th minute. Final score: Jordan 1, Philippines 2.
Jordan now lays at third place in goal difference over Thailand, who lost to group leaders China 4-0 in the first game, while the Philippines stand at second place with 3 points in goal difference behind China.
The National Team takes over Vietnam in the second match on April 9, while meets China on the closing game of group stage on April 12.
